The Solar Tinting Centre was established in Wagga Wagga by the Laurent family in 1978. Known then as “The Solar Centre”, the company marketed a number of energy saving products, including Solar hot water systems, fibre glass insulation batts, and pool-heating systems.
Focusing on Window Tinting
In the mid 1980s, solar control films for windows were added to the product range. The popularity of these exciting new products, particularly with motor vehicle customers, was such that within five years the sales from auto tinting accounted for the greater part of the firm’s turnover. This led to Management assessing the future direction of the Company, and so it was decided in 1990 that the firm’s future lay solely in window tinting, as a stand-alone operation, and to have a name change to “The Solar Tinting Centre”.
When the above change occurred, the firm operated from premises at 12/14 Edward Street, where it continued to operate until 2006. Given the growth of the business, it was already apparent by then that more office space and workshop areas were needed to meet projected needs. This condition was met by December that year with relocation to the present address on 1 Bye Street.
The tinting bay area in the new, modern and expansive building is more extensive, allowing the positioning of eight vehicles at a time, an increase of five vehicles from the previous premises.
